Friday Faves: Showbiz Themed Wedding Ideas

10.15.2015 Seeing Stars Friday Faves Post

Ain’t No Wedding Like a Showbiz Themed Wedding Cuz There Ain’t No Biz Like Showbiz!

Today’s post might be for you if…. You know how to bring the glitz and glam – you’ve practiced with your infamous Oscar-themed parties and Emmy evenings, sequins and red lipstick is your signature look, and you may or may not have once or twice forgotten that the sunroof was open while you belted out Moulin Rouge songs in the car…at a stoplight…with a car full of hipsters pulled up beside you, enjoying the free show. (Your secret’s safe with me! 😉 ) You’re no stranger to the center stage, and at least once or twice you’ve dreamed of seeing your name in lights. Well now’s your chance! More than any other occasion, for your wedding you will definitely be in the spotlight. (Hopefully you won’t mind sharing it with your sweetie!)

For this week’s Friday Faves we’re walking the red carpet with showbiz-themed weddings. Lights, camera…..ACTION!

(#SorryNotSorry for all the puns you’re about to be subjected to :P. )

1. Bridal Gowns & Groom’s Attire

If one of the many variations on white happens to be your shade, you’re in luck! Vintage-inspired silhouettes in white are stunning and spot-on for a little old Hollywood glam. Add a soft, luxurious (faux!) stole or a vintage bolero for effect, and for warmth in a fall or winter wedding. Turn up the glam even more with a shimmering metallic tone. Beads, sequins, rhinestones, glitter, feathers, and fringe are right at home in a Hollywood-themed wedding. If sequins aren’t your thing you can go for something in more of a nude or blush tone with lux gold, rose-gold, silver, or brassy accents – on your gown or in your accessories. The gilded bridal gowns featured above cast a beautiful glow for an evening reception – you’ll be bringing your own spotlight with you wherever you go!

Of course, it’s important for couples to bring on the glam in tandem. For this we turn to Baz Luhrmann and his fabulous take on The Great Gatsby for inspiration on groom’s attire and bridal suits. You can incorporate pastel colors (or even the deep burgundy featured above) with a waistcoat or accented in a tie. And whether you’re going bow-tie or traditional, choose a cut that’s a little looser than than modern close-fitted suits to stay in character. Points if you use a pocket watch or a top hat! And it’s not just grooms that get to have fun with the accessories!

2. Lighting

Fact: When considering lighting for a showbiz-themed wedding, there’s only one rule: go big or go home. There’s nothing understated about Hollywood marquees or Times Square, so bring on the bling! Swap out tiny twinkle lights for larger-globed market (aka bistro, aka Italian) lighting for outdoor weddings or hang them vertically on a stage with a curtain. Now that’s a showstopper!
Another option for larger-than-life love is to light it up even bigger with a marquee display. They make for amazing photo backdrops (see above), indoors or out – no photobooth required – and they’re a perfect way to personalize your wedding. Choose your letters or phrase, then DIY some lights if you’re scrappy and love crafting things with your own two hands.

3. Table Settings

Remember when you went to the theatre and all you wanted to do was find a way to get backstage…to get a peek at the stars, the dressing rooms, the costumes, and the props? Maybe you’d even get a chance at an autograph! No? Just me? Well anyway, you can host your own “cast party reception”, with crystal lighting to keep the soirée classy, or quirky and fun with CD & box office ticket place settings and creative centerpieces featuring theatre playbills or tables named after classic Hollywood actors. Finish it off with a fabulous red carpet and maybe a little red velvet rope – VIPs only! Bouncers optional, but you could have a little one man the guestbook table.

4. Invitations

Set the stage for your showbiz-themed wedding with a Playbill-styled invitation, an “Admit One” ticket, an Oscar-type envelope announcing the winners for Best Romantic Comedy (you and your sweetie, of course!), or this gorgeous vinyl invitation that doubles as a keepsake. Bonus points if you manage to get some kind of playlist on there! For these themed invitations you can go as modern or as classic as you’d like with the fonts and styling. Whichever you choose, your invitations are the perfect way to let your guests in on the theme.

5. The Wedding Altar

The ceremony processional down the aisle istheatre altar always an elaborate affair, what with dramatic music and even a grand entrance for the bride. Believe it or not, a wedding altar is a wholly appropriate place to style-infuse a little showbiz glamour.

Create an ornate frame of your own for your ceremony space, or choose a venue with an existing stage – like Happy Days Lodge in Peninsula or go straight for one of Cleveland’s Playhouse Square theatres or rent out a local movie theatre space. Regardless of venue, you can use theatre-style seating for your guests or have them join you up on stage like the cast of a musical.

For an interactive red carpet experience, place your photobooth on the way into the venue or just inside the doorway with hired photographer “paparazzi” to snap photos against a stunning backdrop as your guests arrive. If you can get that to happen with instant Polaroids, you can set out the photos for guests to autograph and add their photos to a guestbook / photo album!
