Want to get away for the honeymoon of your dreams, but don’t want to spend a fortune? From domestic paradises to international wonderlands, I’ve curated a short list of desirable, yet affordable, honeymoon destinations.
For a fun European destination that won’t empty your wallet, Dublin, Ireland, has returned to the map. Despite its high hotel prices a few years ago during the country’s economic boom, they have become more reasonable and budget-friendly recently, and with attractions such as the legendary Guinness Storehouse, the National Botanic Gardens, the Irish Whiskey Museum, and plenty of scenic tours to partake in, it’s a great place to soak in Irish culture and history while celebrating the beginning of your new married life. There’s also plenty of rolling hills and ocean views!
For whatever other reasons people may be flocking to Colorado, the state is still home to a beautiful set of mountains, and with a recent Super Bowl win, you can be sure the residents will be in an extra-good mood and super-tolerant of tourists. From ski resorts like Vail and Breckenridge to the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado offers wonderful scenery coupled with a growing big-city feel in the state’s capital of Denver, and since it’s not international, you can save on airfare, or even drive if you’re close enough!
Home to Niagara Falls and cultural cities like Quebec, Montreal, and Vancouver, Canada is an international destination close to home (and not far from the #CLE), making it more budget friendly than destinations like France, Italy, or Spain. With its French heritage evident in a great many of its big cities, it’s a place where you can get close to a European experience without having to drop big bucks on the European vacation. Depending on where you stay, some places to consider checking out are Stanley Park in Vancouver, wine country in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the Bay of Fundy, Parliament Hill in Ottawa, or the Notre-Dame Basilica church in Montreal.
For a tropical beach experience without straying far from home, the Florida Keys is an excellent place to soak up the sun and snorkel! Prices for hotels or private cottages can be as low as $130 per night, and with cheap domestic airfare, you can have the time of your life swimming with your sweetie (and some dolphins, too!). You can go boating, fishing, or check out the local arts and culture scene on the islands. You’ll feel like you’re vacationing on international waters without having to leave the country.
