Alternative wedding transportation so you can arrive in style
The Tandem Bike – There are a lot of great places in Ohio that specialize in selling tandem bikes. If you know this is an activity that you and your better half enjoy then you’re really killing two birds with one stone: wedding transportation and fun couples’ activity! If you’re looking to invest in a tandem bike the price tag is definitely a factor to consider. However, you can roll up your sleeves and get DIY on this one. All you need is a good deal on Craigslist (or if you’re old school like me and like cruising garage sales), some know-how, elbow grease, and a few cans of spray paint.
The Horse Drawn Carriage – Luckily for you, the horse drawn carriage is an instant classic, a real gem of an alternative choice for wedding transportation. Why, you ask? Simple: no matter the season, the horse-drawn carriage retains its romance. It’s as beautiful to drive in a rickety carriage with aged wood and a sweet, four-legged friend in the summer as it is in the fall. In the winter, the horses are clothed with flannel blankets and festive reins with bells, adding even more cheer to your special day. There are plenty of vendors in and around Ohio who will make sure you get to you to the church (or any other ceremony venue) on time.
The Loveboat – Okay, it’s not actually the original “Loveboat” but, hey, when two people love each other as much as our couples do, any boat can be a love boat, right? That’s what I think, anyway. Leaving on a paddleboat or canoe designed especially for you is a great way to arrive and be “swept away” on your wedding day. This is especially a great option for those planning to get married by waterways or whose venues are situated by water. Other variations on this idea are water taxis, sail boats, cruisers and even (ooh, la la!) amphibious planes. But I like the sweet simplicity of a paddleboat just fine. Romantic, cool and unconventional. What more do you need?
VW Camper Bus – A great way to arrive, leave, and keep the adventure going. If you’re planning to hit the honeymoon cross-country right after getting hitched, these are the wheels for you. All four big ones! The classic VW camper bus has all the vintage charm of Scooby Doo and the Mystery Machine and packs enough space to keep it cozy – without the awkward – for two. Think of it like sailing around the world in a boat – on wheels! Even if you’re not leaving for the honeymoon right away, the VW camper is great to incorporate as a piece for vintage-themed weddings. And if you like it more for the cool factor than transportation, check out Sweet Water Caravan‘s adorable mobile bartending service!
Hot Air Balloon – I saved the best for last. Are you ready? Think hot air balloons are only in Turkey? Guess again. Ohio, with its beautiful land and open skies, has plenty of vendors who rent out hot air balloons for special events. I can’t think of a better, more colorful (and daring!) way to arrive than in a hot air balloon. And, bonus: it makes for beautiful wedding shots. Up, up, and away, happily ever after!
