Q: What does a wedding planner (or coordinator) do?
A: Most people have a version of Jennifer Lopez in mind when they think of wedding planners. In reality, a wedding planner can offer a little help or a lot of help, depending on your needs and vision. A wedding planner can help you to select vendors, choose linens, manage your guest list, make catering decisions, calculate expenses and find alternate solutions when an item doesn’t fit the budget, among other things.
When you contact a planner, consider whether you’re just looking for a bit of help in the last few days before the wedding – and someone to help direct events and keep things running on time on your wedding day – or if you need more assistance in researching and planning it all out in advance. Most couples fall somewhere between those two extremes, needing a bit more help with sourcing quality vendors, coordinating details, and managing the budget. Your wedding planner will help you to determine which package options will best suit your needs.
Q: What’s the difference between a wedding planner and a wedding coordinator?
A: Essentially, there’s no difference. However, most professionals using the term “coordinator” are referring to coordination services on the day of the wedding, while “planners” typically begin service earlier in the planning phase. You might also hear the terms “wedding director” or “wedding consultant”, and those are also more or less the same as well. The place where you’ll notice the difference will be in your selected service package, so check to see when service begins. Event Plan-It provides both planning and coordination services as well as design consultation.
Q: Will I be able to choose my own vendors?
A: Yes, you may choose any vendors you like. Event Plan-It will recommend professional vendors we think are the best match for your style, budget, and expectations, but ultimately you will select your vendors.
Q: How far in advance should I book Event Plan-It?
A: As far in advance as you are ready! For weddings, we recommend booking 12-18 months in advance to ensure that your date is reserved, however if the date is available we can book in as few as 2 months prior to the wedding. For other types of events, a minimum of one month advance notice is suggested, but you’re always welcome to contact us to see if we’re available on shorter notice.
Q: Do you also provide event planning services for events other than weddings?
A: Yes, absolutely! Please contact us to inquire about your specific event. We love planning social events like birthday parties, anniversaries, baby showers, holiday parties, and other milestone celebrations.
